Windows Server 2016 - Windows Update Frozen or Stuck

I've stumbled upon a few issues with Windows Server 2016 and Windows Update.  Two different solutions were required depending on the issue.

Solution 1:
Sadly, this has been my "Go To" solution for Windows Update hangs since the Windows Server 2008 days.

A. Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and Windows Update service on the affected computer.
B. Drill down to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and create a folder called "Old"
C. Copy the entire contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder into the newly created "Old" folder.
D. Restart the BITS and Windows Update Service.  This will create fresh versions of the contents of the SoftwareDistribution folder.

E. Run Windows Update.

Solution 2.
In the event the first solution doesn't work, the second solution involves installing the following Windows Server 2016 security update (KB3193494).  Be patient,  This one is a monster.   400+ MB and a long install time.

After installing the update, I was able to successfully download and install windows updates onto the server.

To prevent this issue in the future, the update was added to the Server 2016 task sequence in SCCM.
