Dell DRAC: RAC0218: The maximum number of user sessions is reached

Recently, I've received this error several times while deploying servers.  I've found the quickest way to resolve this issue is to SSH into the DRAC and run the following command.  Of course, after confirming that no one is legitimately logged in ;-)

racadm racreset

This command restarts the DRAC and frees up all of the available sessions.

  3. What happens if you get "Server sent disconnect message type 11 (by application:" when you ssh to the DRAC address?

  5. If SSH doesn't work, and you have physical access, you can reset the DRAC by holding the "i" button down for ~20 seconds (until the light turns off).

    1. Thanks for the TIP. SSH/Telnet was not working while having the error mentioned in the post.

  7. Hi we have “Dell iDRAC 7 Enterprise RAC0218: The maximum number of user sessions is reached”, but when trying to ssh to its management interface, and logging on as root, I obtain the message :
“No more sessions are available for this type of connection”.
It only shows in a short flash, and the session is immediately kicked out. All the servers located in remote place. Please give some suggestion to solve the issue.

  9. If this is still being followed, I get the same error when trying to SSH to the iDRAC.

    Thanks

  10. I receive the same Error as RBMRAMESH:
when trying to ssh to its management interface, and logging on as root, I obtain the message :
“No more sessions are available for this type of connection”.
It only shows in a short flash, and the session is immediately kicked out.

  12. I figured out you can update the firmware on the DRAC with a Windows installer update from support.dell.com with the Service Tag. Fixed all issues here.
